In observance of World Hearing Day, Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) conducted a free ear care and screening services sponsored by His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, aimed at promoting quality ear care for Rivers People as part of his many ongoing significant initiatives for improving the health sector in Rivers State. With such initiatives, residents in Rivers State are poised to benefit from improved access to quality healthcare services, ultimately contributing to their overall well-being.

To officially flag off the event, the Governor was ably represented by Her Excellency, Prof. Dr. Ngozi Nma Odu, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, who emphasized the importance of hearing health and the government’s commitment to healthcare initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of residents of the state. The event afforded Rivers people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to access essential ear care services, including screenings and consultations, at no cost.

The event which was held in collaboration with the Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Society of Nigeria (OLSON), Rivers State Chapter, at the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Surgery Clinic located at RSUTH Annex, Rebisi (Garrison Junction), offered free services to attendees. The collaboration between RSUTH and OLSON Rivers State Chapter underscores the importance of collective efforts in addressing healthcare challenges, particularly in the area of ear health.

Addressing participants, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unrelenting support toward healthcare programs in the state and his commitment to repositioning the health sector in the state. He also extended appreciation to Dr. Adaeze C. Oreh the Honorable Commissioner for Health, for her dedication and collaboration in facilitating the event.

The event not only highlighted the significance of World Hearing Day but also served as a testament to the commitment of Governor Fubaraโ€™s administration in promoting public health initiatives. As the event concluded, participants expressed optimism about the lasting impact of such initiatives and reiterated their commitment to advancing healthcare delivery in Rivers State and beyond.
