Summary of Activities for the Week; 14th – 19th August, 2023.
Regular activities in the office of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt from 14th to 19th August, 2023.
~ MONDAY 14th August, 2023
The office, Monday 14th August, 2023 opened her doors to receive visitations, memos etc.
1. THE CMD MEETS WITH THE MATRON INCHARGE OF RSUTH VIP WARDS:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor in his quest to improve general healthcare service delivery in the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), met with the Matron in charge of VIP wards in RSUTH to discuss ways to upgrade the VIP wards.
2. THE CMD MEETS WITH HODs OF PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENTS:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor and other members of Management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) had an interactive session with the HODs of the various Pathology Departments including Chemical Pathology, Anatomical Pathology, Medical Micro and Haemathology, to address some key issues as it affects the growth of the Department and the Hospital.
3. THE CMD MEETS WITH THE ICU TEAM AHEAD OF THE ICU REOPENING IN RSUTH:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor and other members of Management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) had a meeting with the ICU team to review progress ahead of the reopening and commencement of operations at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The CMD expressed his commitment to the reopening of this critical unit like the ICU as this will greatly improve healthcare service delivery in the Hospital.
4. THE CMD MEETS WITH CSSD IN RSUTH:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor met with the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) in the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) to discuss ways to improve healthcare service delivery.

5. THE CMD MEETS WITH SOME HODs IN RSUTH:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor and other members of the Management of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital met with the Heads of the Department of Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery, and Family to discuss how these departments will contribute towards the operationalization of the ICU.
6. THE CMD MEETS WITH OFFICIALS OF GENERAL ELECTRIC (GE):
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor met with officials of General Electric (GE) at the Rivers State Government House Clinic to consider methods to work together for better healthcare service delivery at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital especially on the critical matter of maintenance of hospital equipment.

7. THE CMD ATTENDS THE OPENING CEREMONY OF NMA Rivers State 63rd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING/SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE 2023:
The Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor attend the opening ceremony of NMA 63rd Annual General Meeting & Scientific Conference 2023 with the theme “Litigation in Medical practice: An emerging trend”. Also in attendance was the Chairman of the occasion, Justice Mary U. Odili Rtd (JSC), the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh who represented the Executive Governor of Rivers State, the Provost of Rivers State University College of Medical Sciences, and Prof. Orluwene Chituru Godwill among others.

8. THE CMD ATTENDS THE 56TH REGULAR MEETING OF THE ACADEMIC BOARD OF COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, attended the 56th Regular Meeting of the Academic Board of the College of Medical Sciences held at the College Building, Rivers State University. The meeting was chaired by the Provost, Rivers State University College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Orluwene Chituru Godwill.
9. THE CMD RECEIVES WHO AFRO REGION AND OTHER STAKHOLDERS IN PUBLIC HEALTH ON A COURTESY VISIT TO RSUTH:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, received the representatives of WHO Afro Region and other stakeholders in public health led by the Director of Public Health in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Golden Owhonda. The team were on a courtesy visit to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) to find ways of partnership for the development of the hospital.

10. THE CMD INTERACTS WITH RSUTH NURSES:
In order to address certain crucial concerns that have an impact on nursing services at the hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, and other members of management at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) engaged in an interactive session with Nurses. The CMD thanked the Nurses in his remarks as important stakeholders and assured them of management’s ongoing support as they make a commitment to enhancing nursing services at RSUTH.
11. THE CMD INTERACTS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHESIA IN RSUTH:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, in the company of the DCMD and ACMD1 made an unscheduled visit to the HOD and other medical staff of the department of Anaesthesia in the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH). They had fruitful discussions especially as it borders on the efficient operation of the ICU, opening of the Modular Theater and others.
12. THE CMD HOLDS A FOLLOW-UP MEETING WITH HEADS OF THE PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENTS IN RSUTH:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, and other members of Management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) met again with the heads of the various pathology departments, including Chemical Pathology, Anatomical Pathology, Medical Microbiology, and Haematology, as a follow-up of the previous meeting held earlier this week to further conclude on some important issues for the development of the Department and the Hospital.

13. THE CMD RECEIVES THE PRESTIGIOUS NMA RIVERS STATE ROLL OF HONOUR AWARD:
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, was honored with the prestigious Nigerian Medical Association’s Roll of Honour Award for his significant contributions to the expansion and development of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the general improvement of health in Rivers State. The NMA Roll of Honour Award is the highest award granted to individuals who have contributed massively to the growth and development of the Nigerian Medical Association and the advancement of health in Rivers State at large.
