Summary of Activities for the Week; Monday 28th August – Friday 1st September, 2023.

Regular activities in the office of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt from Monday 28th August to Friday 1st September 2023, running through working days of the week.

~ MONDAY 28th August, 2023

The office, Monday 28th August, 2023 opened her doors to receive visitations, memos etc.

1. CMD RECEIVED MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL OF RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY (RSU) TO THE RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL (RSUTH):

The Ag. Chief Medical Director, Prof Chizindu A. Alikor and other members of Management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) received the Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Hon. Justice Iche N. Ndu. LL.D, FLGS, FIMC, OFR, KSC, DSSRS, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Nlerum Okogbule, the Provost, College of Medical Sciences RSU, Prof. Chituru Orluwene and other members of the Governing Council of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) to inspect and access the readiness of the-state-of the-art Pathology Building by the Rivers State Government.

2. CMD MEETS WITH MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL INSURANCE HEALTH SCHEME(NHIS) IN RSUTH:

The Ag. Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu Alikor and other members of Management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) met with members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to address some key issues as it affects the implementation of the Scheme in RSUTH and to make it more accessible to patients in the hospital.

3. CMD HOLDS AN EXTRAORDINARY MEETING WITH ALL HOD’s IN RSUTH:

The Ag. Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu Alikor and other members of Management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) met with all Heads of Departments to address some key issues especially the opening of the Intensive Care Unit which is scheduled to be opened later this week.

4. THE CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR LED MANAGEMENT TEAM TO THE NEW RSUTH ANNEX FACILITY FOR INSPECTION:

The Ag. Chief Medical Director Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor led the Management team including the HOD’s of Opthalmology, ENT and Dental to the new Annex building of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), to access the facilities and equipment and ascertain its readiness for commissioning in few weeks. The RSUTH Annex building will accommodate the Ophthalmology, ENT and Dental Departments. The facility also has an Administrative building situated in Port Harcourt by Rebisi Flyover.

5. CMD HOLDS AN EMERGENCY MEETING WITH THE HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF RSUTH:

The Ag. Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu Alikor had an emergency meeting with the Hospitals Management Committee (HMC) of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) to address some urgent issues especially at it concerns the opening of the Intensive Care Unit which is scheduled to be opened later this week.

6. CMD VISITS THE RSUTH DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE-URBAN PRIMARY HEALTH CENTER, PORT HARCOURT:

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, in the company of the Deputy Chief Medical Director, Dr. Alali Dan-Jumbo made a scheduled visit to the HOD and other medical staff of the Department of Community Medicine in the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH). They had fruitful deliberations especially as it borders on the efficient operation of the center. It was a robust and productive interactive session with the CMD.

7. CMD ATTENDS THE RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY 91ST INAUGURAL LECTURE BY PROF. GODWIN CHITURU ORLUWENE:

The Ag. Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor attended the Rivers State University 91st Inaugural Lecture By Prof. Godwin Chituru Orluwene at the Dr. Nyesom Wike Senate Building, Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo. The topic for the Lecture was “METABESITY – LIVING IN DEATH, SLOW SUICIDE”

8. THE CMD JOINS THE DELEGATION OF STAKEHOLDERS IN RIVERS STATE HEALTH SECTOR FOR A VISIT TO THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE

The Ag. Chief Medical Director Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor joined the Nigerian Medical Association Rivers Chapter Chairman, Dr Ebbi Robinson and SOC accompanied by the President Association of Resident Doctors in RSUTH and Chairman, National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners Rivers State branch in an interactive meeting with the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS.

The delegation led by the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh and the NMA Rivers Chairman Outlined issues affecting various categories of doctors and the health sector in general, to which the governor engaged and addressed members of cabinets and officers involved to quickly address issues raised.

The Governor made strong commitment to immediately address all issues raised including payment of Grants, domestication of new Hazard allowances, implementation 2023 CONMESS, promotions and recruitment of Health workers.

We look forward to improved welfare for our members and a strengthened healthcare delivery services in Rivers State.

9. THE CMD ATTENDS NMA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING:

The Ag. Chief Medical Director of Rivers University Teaching Hospital attended the opening ceremony of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) National Executive Council Meeting held in Owerri Imo State. The event with the theme “Healthcare System in a Depressed Economy” had in attendance State and National Leadership of NMA, the Medical Elders, and other Stakeholders in the health sector in Nigeria.

10. OPENING OF THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AT RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL:

The Intensive Care Unit of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital was officially opened today to the public by the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh. 

The ICU is a well equipped state-of-the-art healthcare facility with a total of 12 ICU BEDS, Ventilators, Multiparameter Patient Monitors, Defribrillator/AEDs, Infusion Pumps, Suction Machines, Mobile X-ray Unit, Electrocardiography Services, Echocardiography services, ISTAT Machine, Continuous flow of piped oxygen, Dedicated Automated Laboratory etc.  

The Ag. Chief Medical Director #CMD Rivers State University Teaching Hospital #RSUTH Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor on behalf of the Management and staff of the Hospital, emphatically thanked the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminilayi Fubara, GSSRS for his dedication and commitment to the healthcare and well being of Rivers people appreciating him for his support that made this opening of the ICU a reality. The CMD also appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, for her vision for the health ministry of Rivers State.

The CMD reassured the Government of Rivers State that the Management of the RSUTH will ensure that service delivery, training and innovative research which are key mandates of the hospital are realised.

He thanked the Almighty God.
