The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) demonstrated its dedication to community health today as the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Chizindu Alikor, led a highly successful, free Cardiovascular Outreach held at the RSU Medical Center. The initiative, held in anticipation of Prof. Alikor’s upcoming inaugural lecture, saw hundreds of residents receiving crucial, specialized heart screenings.

Medical professionals, under the CMD’s direct supervision, provided comprehensive diagnostic services, including Blood Pressure (BP) checks, Electrocardiogram (ECG), free consultation with cardiology specialists, and advanced Echocardiography (ECHO). The goal was to promote preventative care and early detection of heart disease within the local population.

The event was graced by a high-powered delegation from the university led by the RSU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, and accompanied by the entire body of Principal Officers: Prof Richard Amadi (DVC Academics), Prof Blessing Jaja (DVC Administration), Mrs. Ibimonia Biobele Sotonye Harry (Registrar), Dr. Gift Onyinye Eke (Bursar), and Dr. Juliet Chinedu Alex-Nmecha (Librarian). The delegation toured the outreach stations alongside the CMD.

In an interview, the VC was effusive in his commendation of Prof. Alikor’s leadership and vision. “This outreach is an outstanding example of medical professionalism and community engagement,” the VC remarked. “It reflects RSUTH’s core mission to not just treat ailments but also to proactively improve public health.”

The Vice Chancellor also took the opportunity to extend his institution’s full support and best wishes to the CMD for his significant academic milestone: his Inaugural Lecture this Wednesday.

In his response, Prof. Alikor expressed gratitude for the Vice Chancellor’s continuous support. He reaffirmed RSUTH’s commitment to sustaining such programs, emphasizing that bringing specialized care directly to the people remains a top priority for the hospital management.
