Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) in partnership with Smile Train, has today 20th June successfully performed a free cleft lip surgery on a 3-month-old baby.
The procedure, led by Dr. Oti Nimi Aria, Burns, Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeon RSUTH marks the beginning of a new cleft care initiative aimed at providing comprehensive support to children and adults with cleft lip and palate.
The initiative offers free cleft surgeries, medical tests, and transportation support to eligible patients. Dr Aria states that untreated cleft lip and palate can lead to feeding, speech, and social challenges, making timely intervention crucial.
RSUTH has assembled a multidisciplinary team to support patients throughout their care journey, from diagnosis to recovery. The program aims to reduce stigma and improve access to quality care for those affected by cleft conditions.
This milestone underscores RSUTH’s commitment to providing specialized healthcare services to the people of Rivers State and beyond.
