The Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Rivers State Branch, have conferred the prestigious Advocacy Champion Award on Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, the Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to maternal, newborn, and child nutrition and health (AIM-MNCNH) initiatives across Rivers State and beyond.
The award was presented by the National President of MWAN, Prof. Rosemary Ogu, during an event that brought together healthcare professionals, policy advocates, and public health stakeholders committed to improving maternal and child health outcomes.
Prof Alikor, the outstanding CMD of RSUTH who has laid remarkable achievements, was honoured for support and leadership in accelerating the implementation of AIM-MNCNH innovations, a national strategic framework aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and promoting nutrition and early childhood development.
In her remarks, Prof. Rosemary Ogu commended Prof. Alikor’s proactive involvement in healthcare reforms, emphasizing that his support as the CMD of RSUTH has been instrumental in strengthening institutional capacity and fostering collaboration among government agencies, healthcare providers, and communities to address the pressing challenges facing maternal and child health.
Responding to the honour, the representative of the CMD, Dr. Ureh A. Oparaodu, conveyed the CMD’s appreciation to MWAN and reaffirmed RSUTH’s continued commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the state. The CMD also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing evidence-based policies and interventions that protect the lives of women and children.
This event highlights RSUTH’s growing role as a leading institution in the implementation of public health innovations and a major stakeholder in the ongoing efforts to elevate healthcare standards in Rivers State.
