In a landmark achievement, the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has received full 5 years accreditation for the Membership and Fellowship Programmes of its Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) Department from the West African College of Surgeons, effective June 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional medical training and superior patient care.

Chief Medical Director Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor expressed profound joy in the achievement, emphasizing that this accreditation marks a new chapter for RSUTH in its mission to deliver top-tier healthcare services, training, and research. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for his unwavering leadership and support that has played a crucial role in this success. Prof. Alikor also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, DSSRS, whose involvement and support were instrumental in achieving this remarkable milestone.

The CMD further thanked Honorable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Adaeze C. Oreh, for her dedication and guidance throughout the accreditation process. He commended the hospital’s management and staff of the ENT Department, emphasizing that this achievement reflects their collective effort, hard work, and dedication to ensuring that the department meets the highest standards of healthcare excellence. Patients can now benefit from enhanced services and a trained cadre of specialists ready to address a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions.

This accreditation not only positions RSUTH as a leader in medical education and research in the region but also reassures the people of Rivers State that they have access to high-quality healthcare services.
