RSUTH Inaugurates Ebola Case Management Team to Strengthen Preparedness
The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, has inaugurated its Ebola Case Management Team to strengthen preparedness for suspected and confirmed cases at its designated case management centre.
The inauguration followed approval by the Governor of Rivers State.
The team was inaugurated on Monday, October 26, 2026, during a meeting convened by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu Alikor, to coordinate response measures, strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC), and promote public sensitisation.
The meeting brought together a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including representatives from the Infectious Disease Unit, Community Medicine, Pathology, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, resident doctors, nursing services, and other relevant departments.
Discussions focused on ensuring RSUTH’s readiness as a case management centre, identifying gaps in essential supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE), strengthening safety protocols, and ensuring healthcare workers are equipped to manage cases while minimising the risk of transmission.
Participants also emphasised the importance of public awareness, early detection, prompt reporting, and effective coordination as critical components of Ebola preparedness and response.
The initiative underscores RSUTH’s commitment to protecting patients, healthcare workers, and the wider community.
