The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) HIV healthcare programme has earned both national and international accreditation (updated ISO Standard) for its PCR laboratory, a milestone hailed as a major boost to Nigeria’s fight against HIV.
During a high-level visit from the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) led by Dr. Stanley Idakwo (the Rivers State Project Director), stakeholders described RSUTH as “a centre of Excellence” and celebrated the lab’s role in supporting over 190 sites in Southern Nigeria and attainment of new quality assurance and Bio-safety benchmarks in the Facility.

The visit highlighted achievements in skills transfer, mentorship, and strengthening of HIV service delivery across the country. The need for sustainability of the laboratory operations at the end of the Grant’s tenure was re-iterated.

The Hospital management praised the collaborators (US Government and the IHVN) for their support and impactive role in combating HIV in our country.

They pledged to work with stakeholders to ensure sustainability of the programme at all times.
