The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has taken a significant step in combating the rising threat of Hepatitis B in Rivers State. In collaboration with Megalife Limited, RSUTH launched a public health campaign to screen, sensitize, and protect citizens against the deadly virus.
The campaign, kicked off with a lively awareness rally, and aims to educate the public about Hepatitis B transmission, prevention, and treatment. The initiative includes free hepatitis B screening and it is part of RSUTH’s broader strategy to combat the silent spread of the virus, especially in vulnerable communities.
Professor Chizindu Alikor, Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, described Hepatitis B as a “silent killer,” emphasizing that many carriers are unaware of their status until serious damage has occurred. He highlighted the virus’s transmission modes, including blood contact, sexual activity, shared sharp objects, and mother-to-child transmission during childbirth. He also warned that alcohol consumption can accelerate liver damage in infected persons, increasing the risk of cancer.
The event concluded with a screening exercise for community members, providing them with an opportunity to assess their health status and receive guidance on hepatitis prevention and management. This World Hepatitis Day celebration served as a significant step in educating the community about hepatitis, promoting liver health, and encouraging proactive measures against the disease.
The partnership between Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and Mega Life Sciences demonstrates a shared commitment to improving public health and raising awareness about critical health issues.
I was diagnosed with Hepatitis B four years ago. For over two years, I relied on antiviral medication and routine monitoring, but unfortunately, my symptoms and liver-related concerns continued to worry me. My energy levels dropped, and I often felt unwell and anxious about my health.
ReplyLast year, hoping for additional support, I decided to try a herbal treatment program from NaturePath Herbal Clinic. Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but within a few months, I began to feel some changes. My fatigue lessened, my digestion felt better, and overall I felt more balanced and healthier. I also regained much of my energy and confidence. It’s been a meaningful experience, and I feel more like myself again. If you or a loved one is dealing with Hepatitis B, you might consider exploring complementary approaches that feel right for you.
