About Us

The Center for Healthcare Assistant and Caregiver Training (CENHACT), Rivers State University Teaching Hospital was established to meet the growing need for caregivers for individuals with chronic disease conditions and are dependent and elderly persons. This comprehensive 3-month training program is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills required for providing effective care to the elderly and individuals with varying levels of dependency. The program covers sixteen core modules of caregiving and includes hands-on practical sessions to ensure skills development and real-world application.

To build professionals who are skilled, competent and capable of delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate care that addresses the increasing needs of the aging population and contribute to the management of end-stage diseases.

Mission

The mission of this caregiving training program is to equip participants with the essential skills, knowledge, and attitude required to provide high-quality care to patients in various healthcare settings.

Eligibility Criteria

✅ ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be admitted into CENHACT programme, applicants must possess the following requirements or equivalent:

  • A minimum of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE/WAEC) or Academic qualification of any discipline (Health, Technical, Business, Art, Commercial, Engineering or Science).

  • Age Criteria: He/She must be between 20-55 years during the time of making their application into this program.
 
 

📌 NOTE: 

  • The courses are offered onsite (Physical).

⏱️ PROGRAMME DURATION

  • Full-time: This runs for 3 months (12 weeks) and is structured as followed:
      • 6 weeks of lectures.
      • 4 weeks of hands-on in-hospital/home training
      • 2 weeks of revision, capstone project presentation, and exams.
  • Part-time: This runs for 4 months (16 weeks) and is structured as followed:
      • 8 weeks of lectures.
      • 6 weeks of hands-on in-hospital/home training.
      • 2 weeks of revision, capstone project presentation, and exams.
 

🕒 LECTURE TIMING (COHORTS)

CENHACT course modules are organized into two flexible cohort schedules to accommodate working professionals:

  • Cohort I (Morning): 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
  • Cohort II (Evening): 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

📌 NOTE: 

  • Students must select and commit to one cohort throughout the course.

Methodology

CENHACT uses a structured, hands-on learning model:

MONTH 1

  • Orientation on use of tech platforms and tools
  • Introduction to the CENHACT learning model
  • Pre-test assessments
  • Faculty-led teaching (2 hours daily)

MONTH 2

  • Interactive training modules distributed
  • Skill acquisition via simulations, drills, lab tours
  • Individual and group assignments

MONTH 3

  • Final report writing
  • Capstone project presentation
  • Final examination

Outcome and Certification

Upon successful completion of each course, students will receive a Certificate of Achievement, based on:

  • Participation in assignments and simulations
  • Completion of capstone project
  • Final examination performance

📝 HOW TO APPLY

Follow these steps to begin your journey at CENHACT:

  1. On the CENHACT website, scroll down to Course Modules
  2. Click on Apply
  3. On RSUTH Applications Portal, click on Applications
  4. Complete the  CENHACT Admission Form. Fill in all required details and select “Centre for Healthcare Assistant and Caregiver Training” as your institute. 
  5. Click on Make Payment and Pay the Application Fee (₦25,000). Payment can be made securely online using debit card or bank transfer.
    APPLICATION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
  6. To complete your admission process, visit the CENHACT Office with your CENHACT Application Slip and pay the course fee.
