Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor is a distinguished Consultant Cardiologist and the Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Nigeria. He is a professor of cardiovascular medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical Sciences, Rivers State University.
A seasoned academic and clinician, Prof. Alikor has earned multiple qualifications, including an MBBS, a master’s degree in medicine from the University of the Free State, South Africa, and a PhD in Occupational Health and Safety Studies. He also holds certifications in management (Nigeria Institute of Management) and theology (Redeemed Bible College).
Prof. Alikor is widely recognized for his contributions to cardiovascular medicine and nuclear cardiology. He is a Fellow of: West African College of Physicians (FWACP), College of Nuclear Physicians of South Africa (FCNPSA), International Atomic Energy Agency, Austria (IAEA), European Society of Cardiology (FESC), and Nigeria Cardiac Society (FNCS).
Additionally, he is a member of the: American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), South African Society of Nuclear Medicine (SASNM), Nigeria Institute of Management (Graduate Member, GMIN).
A passionate researcher, Prof. Alikor has presented and published extensively in both local and international scientific conferences and journals. His expertise spans cardiovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology, and occupational health. He played a pioneering role in establishing the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) and also served as the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at RSUTH.
Beyond his academic and clinical contributions, Prof. Alikor has been deeply involved in medical leadership and advocacy. He has served in several key capacities, including: President, Association of Resident Doctors, UPTH (2009–2010), Secretary, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State (2016–2018), Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State (2020–2022), Secretary-General, Nigerian Cardiac Society (2022 – present), Chairman, NMA National Leadership Development and Retreat Committee, and Co-Chairman, National Nuclear Medicine Technical Working Group (NM-TWG) of the Federal Government.
He is married to Dr. Mrs. Oroma Alikor, and they are blessed with four children.
His life and career are a testament to excellence in medicine, leadership, and service to humanity. Prof. Alikor continues to be a driving force in advancing cardiovascular medicine in Nigeria and beyond.
Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor is the current President, Nigerian Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.
In addition to his academic, professional and leadership accomplishments, Prof. Alikor is a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
