The Ophthalmology Department of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has successfully completed another accreditation process by the prestigious West African College of Surgeons (WACS), Faculty of Ophthalmology, on Monday 19th August, 2024. The accomplishment is an important milestone for the department, reflecting its commitment to high standards of medical excellence and patient care.

The WACS accreditation team, was led by Prof. Joshua Foluso Owoeye. The team also included Prof. Bernice Adegbehingbe, Dr. Abdulkadir Lawal Rafindadi, and Dr. Eberechukwu Achigbu. Their comprehensive evaluation and expert assessment ensured that the department met and exceeded the rigorous criteria required for accreditation.

Prof. Chizindu A Alikor, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, extended a warm welcome to the accreditation team and underscored the department’s thorough preparation for the evaluation. He highlighted the departmentโ€™s facilities, demonstrating RSUTH’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of medical practice and patient care. Prof. Alikor thanked His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, for his steadfast support, which has elevated the hospital’s standards and facilities, enabling us to achieve the laudable milestone of multiple accreditation visits in a short time.

As RSUTH awaits the final results of the accreditation visit, this achievement not only underscores the department’s excellence but will enhance the department’s ability to provide top-tier ophthalmic services to the community and further solidify RSUTH’s reputation as a leading healthcare institution.
