The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital in Port Harcourt has been selected as one of the study sites for The Sub-Saharan Africa Survey of Heart Failure (THESUS-HF II), an important initiative aimed at advancing heart failure research in Africa.

 

The study team at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital is led by Prof. Chizindu Alikor as the Primary Investigator, with Drs. Boma Oyan and Ovundah Nyeche serving as Co-Investigators. 

 

This observational study spans multiple African countries, including Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Republic of Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia.

 

The study is part of a global registry organized by the University of Cape Town (UCT) in collaboration with cardiologists from the Pan-African Society of Cardiology (PASCAR). It follows the pioneering work of the original Sub-Saharan African Survey of Heart Failure (THESUS-HF).
